Mangal Bhaat Puja
मंगल भात पूजाMangal pujan and the traditional cooked-rice offering at the chosen Shiva temple.
Why is this puja performed?
Mangal Bhaat Puja is usually booked for Mangal shanti, often before marriage when a pandit has advised it after looking at the horoscope. Cooked rice is offered to Shiva at the chosen temple. You can ask about the arrangements at Mangalnath or Angareshwar in Ujjain.
Please confirm which temple you want to book. Mangalnath and Angareshwar are separate places, and the arrangements can differ.
When families arrange it
- Mangal shanti advised after a horoscope discussion
- Before marriage, where family tradition calls for it
- A personal sankalp at Mangalnath or Angareshwar
How the puja is performed
The steps below explain what usually happens. Before you book, the pandit will confirm the readings, their number and any differences at your temple.
Temple and sankalp confirmation
The pandit checks your name, gotra and any birth details needed for the puja. He confirms the temple and takes the sankalp for Mangal shanti.
Ganesh puja and preliminary worship
You begin with Ganesh puja and the opening prayers followed at that temple. The pandit explains when you should offer flowers or repeat a mantra.
Mangal pujan and mantra recitation
The pandit performs Mangal pujan and recites the mantras. You make the offerings he gives you, following his instructions.
Shiva abhishek
Shiva puja and abhishek are performed before the bhaat offering. The temple decides which materials can be used at the Shivling.
Bhaat offering
The prepared rice is offered at the Shivling by the temple priest. This is the main bhaat offering for which the puja is named.
Closing prayer and aarti
The pandit completes the Mangal shanti prayer and aarti. If you also want a havan or another graha puja, arrange it before the day.
What you and your family do
The sankalp includes the name of the person for whom Mangal shanti is offered. Ask the pandit whether that person needs to attend.
