Kaal Sarp Shanti
कालसर्प शांतिRahu–Ketu and naga pujan, mantra japa and the havan agreed with your pandit.
Why is this puja performed?
Kaal Sarp Shanti is a Rahu–Ketu puja from the astrological tradition. People usually book it after a pandit has looked at their birth chart and recommended this particular shanti. If you have been advised to perform it, speak to the pandit about the reason and the full vidhi before booking.
The ceremony includes Rahu–Ketu and naga worship. It is different from Mangal Bhaat Puja and from ancestral ceremonies.
When families arrange it
- A specific recommendation after birth-chart discussion
- A family sankalp for Rahu–Ketu shanti
- A suitable date agreed with the pandit
How the puja is performed
The steps below explain what usually happens. Before you book, the pandit will confirm the readings, their number and any differences at your temple.
Discuss the recommendation and vidhi
First, speak to the pandit about the recommendation you have received. He will explain the puja, where it will take place and whether it includes a havan.
Sankalp and Ganesh puja
The sankalp is taken in the name of the person for whom the shanti is being done. Ganesh puja and the opening prayers follow.
Kalash and Navagraha worship
The pandit sets up the kalash and Navagraha puja. You make the opening offerings as he directs.
Rahu–Ketu and naga pujan
Rahu, Ketu and the naga symbols used in the puja are worshipped with flowers and the other materials listed by the pandit.
Mantra recitation and havan
The pandit completes the agreed mantra repetitions. If a havan is included, you offer the ahutis as he recites the mantras.
Final offerings and conclusion
The havan ends with purnahuti, followed by the closing prayers. The pandit will explain what to do with any puja symbols afterwards.
What you and your family do
Ask whether the person named in the puja must attend. If there is any fasting or other preparation, the pandit should explain it before the day.
