Navagraha Shanti & Havan
नवग्रह शांति एवं हवनWorship of all nine grahas, mantra recitation and a Navagraha havan.
Why is this puja performed?
Navagraha Shanti is performed to worship all nine grahas. Families often arrange it with Griha Pravesh or after a horoscope consultation, praying for peace at home and support in a new phase of life. The service described here includes both the puja and a havan.
The nine grahas are Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu. Each receives its own worship and offerings.
When families arrange it
- Griha Pravesh or another family ceremony
- Graha shanti advised by the family pandit
- A sankalp for peace at home
How the puja is performed
The steps below explain what usually happens. Before you book, the pandit will confirm the readings, their number and any differences at your temple.
Sankalp and preliminary worship
The pandit takes your names and the reason for the shanti. You begin with the sankalp and Ganesh puja.
Kalash and graha mandala
A kalash and the nine-graha mandala are prepared. The pandit arranges the colours, grains or symbols used in his tradition.
Puja to each graha
Each graha is worshipped in turn. You offer the flowers and other materials when the pandit tells you to.
Graha mantra recitation
The pandit recites the graha mantras. If you have booked extra japa for a particular graha, the number will be listed separately.
Navagraha havan
The pandit lights the havan fire. You then offer the havan materials with the mantras for each graha.
Purnahuti and shanti prayers
You join the final ahuti, shanti prayers and aarti. The pandit completes the ceremony and gives the family his blessings.
What you and your family do
The person offering the puja sits for the sankalp and havan. Other family members can join the offerings and final prayers.
