Arranging Satyanarayan Katha for your family

Choosing a place, preparing prasad and making time for the whole katha.

By VayuDharma · Updated 2 November 2026

Choose a date and place

Families often hold Satyanarayan Katha after a marriage, for a new home, on Purnima or as thanksgiving. Choose a place where everyone can sit comfortably and hear the pandit. Tell us your language and any family custom you want followed. The puja includes Ganesh worship, kalash sthapana, Satyanarayan pujan, the five chapters of the katha and aarti.

Agree the materials and prasad

Ask for the material list before the day. Check which items the pandit brings and which you arrange. Decide who will prepare the prasad and how many people it should serve. If elders need chairs or you need a microphone for a larger group, arrange that in advance. A bhajan group, havan or meal is not automatically included with the katha.

Confirm the booking

Our proposed starting estimate is ₹11,000. Usually, you should keep two to three hours free, though the pandit will confirm the time for your ceremony. The booking does not mean the katha is held inside Vishnupad. It may be at your home or another place in Gaya. Confirm the location, dakshina, materials, prasad and any travel charge before paying.
